Full text of Kucinich’s articles of impeachment.

We won’t let the impeachment move go down the memory hole through sheer force of ignorance by news outlets. We have the Internet, and the Internet has THOMAS, the Library of Congress’ database of legislation.

Here (warning: PDF file), straight from THOMAS, is the full text of Dennis Kucinich’s address to the House last night.

“Resolved, That President George W. Bush be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and that the following articles of impeachment be exhibited to the United States Senate:

Articles of impeachment exhibited by the House of Representatives of the United States of America in the name of itself and of the people of the United States of America, in maintenance and support of its impeachment against President George W. Bush for high crimes and misdemeanors.

In his conduct while President of the United States, George W. Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has committed the following abuses of power.”

It goes on from there, for many many pages. Strap in and get ready for a comprehensive list of pretty much every horrible thing the Bush Administration has done in the last even years. For future reference, the articles are page H088 to H107, dated 6/9/08.

Where the hell is the impeachment news?

Last night, Dennis Kucinich brought a massive list of grievances to the floor of Congress and introduced articles of impeachment. I don’t know how likely this action is to succeed, but it was still a bold move that should be discussed. After all, Congressmen don’t introduce articles of impeachment every day, and the detailed account of the Bush administration’s crimes was simultaneously impressive and depressing. It was dimpressive.

Where the hell is the news of it?!

I watched Dennis speak for a good two hours last night, and I caught a good part of the 35-point litany of horrible crap the Bush administration has done. What I saw was less than half of the five hours he spent on the floor with the list. It was a truly painful account of pretty much everything that’s gone catastrophically wrong thanks to George W. Bush, from the lead-up to the war in Iraq to the mismanagement of the occupation to the outing of Valerie Plame to the Tillman and Lynch incidents to the secretive energy task force.

It’s been 24 hours since Kucinich took the floor and began reciting articles of impeachment. There is nothing on the front pages of CNN.com, MSNBC.com, or FOXNews.com. There is nothing on the political pages of CNN.com, MSNBC.com, or FOXNews.com. The New York Times site only mentions the action in a Reuters link under the Washington Politics section.

The only mention I’ve found on the major news sites is a CNN Political Ticker post mentioning Kucinich’s re-election web site crashing shortly after he brought articles of impeachment to the floor.
Another friend of mine mentioned he heard something on the radio. That’s it. Right now I’m too damn irritated by this whole situation to even get paranoid about the fact that Dennis Kucinich’s web site crashed after he brought articles of impeachment to the floor.

This is news. Even if it’s not likely that Bush will be impeached, the fact that it’s on the floor now is news. You’d think the major outlets would be able to wedge a mention of it in between its fifteen thousand “news” stories of fluffy campaign coverage.

Kucinich to push for Cheney impeachment. Again.

the manI know everyone thinks that Kucinich’s dogged campaign to get either Bush or the Veep impeached is an exercise in futility, but I for one applaud him. Every time a poll snakes out talking about impeachment, at the very least a large chunk of the country likes the idea, if not an out and out majority.

“Congress must hold the Vice President accountable. The American people need to let Members of Congress know how they feel about this. The Vice President continues to use his office to advocate for a continued occupation of Iraq and prod our nation into a belligerent stance against Iran. If the Vice President is successful, his actions will ensure decades of disastrous consequences.”

Exactly. If we can impeach a president for lying about sex/notsex, then we can impeach a Vice President for, well, the laundry list of things he’s done and overseen.

The 43rd president has been characterized by, among other things, a complete lack of accountability. It’d be nice if that would finally start to get fixed.
