Hanlon’s Theatre: Al Franken is awesome

As he says, you are entitled to your own opinions, not your own facts.

The worrisome part is thinking about just how often this kind of thing happens that we don’t see.

  • Hey Hanlon! Great to see you back!

I agree. In fact, I'm starting to wish he and Alan Grayson would join up and make a run as a team for Prez & VP. They'd never make it…. well, shoot, that's what everyone thought about Obama. ^_^

All I know for fact (not opinion!) is that I'm completely fed up with most of the gutless poops we elected last time around.

    • I'm in the same boat. It's gotten to the point where I've blocked calls from the DCCC and I'm not even sure who I'm going to put my support around next year. I'm not exactly pleased with the party at large.

  • Thanks for putting this up, Hanlon.

After watching the video, I went to Google news looking for a news article that would analyze the conflictlng claims made by Franken and Thune impartially, comparing their statements to the language of the bill, so we could decide for ourselves what is fact and what is opinion. I love Al Franken and I totally believe the GOP is Satan's Army, but I wanted to bracket my emotions and just look at the facts.

All I could find in Google news were gossipy accounts of the exchange between Franken and Thune. So far, I haven't found one piece of real reporting on the conflict. It's like TMZ has become the model for journalism. (That last comment doesn't apply to you, Hanlon – I read your blog because when you analyze a news story, you're logical, rigorous, and go beneath the surface.)

    • Well thank you! But you are correct that I didn't check to see who was correct on this one, and I really should have. But then, I haven't read the bill myself. Should probably get on that…

But I have to ask… where the hell has Al Franken been all of our lives? LOL He was an "okay" comedian and even more interesting when he started to become a political supporter, but I think he kicks the proverbial arse as a Democratic Senator!

    • Well he's been kicking around as a political player since, I think, 1996. But back in the mid-1990's the notion of a staunch progressive breaking into the Washington scene was about as ridiculous as expecting teabag neocons to do it now. But the point is, he's here!

I remember him doing a comedy routine (of sorts) with Arianna Huffington called "Strange Bedfellows" where they would argue the various political points from right and left perspectives. Right around 1996, I think. (Yes, children… Arianna was the REPUBLICAN in that scenario!)

Anyone catch the latest little tidbit wherein Franken shut down Liebermann on the senate floor? To me, it's just tasty to see someone slap Liebermann on behalf of the left – regardless of whether or not it was a breach of senate protocol on Franken's part. Like he said "Shut up, already! We're all sick of hearing ANYTHING you have to say anymore!" http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM...

That has MY vote! Wish we could figure out a way to get the guy out of the senate and politics in general!
