Dear the right: please stop worshipping terrorists

The famous Mohammad cartoonAs the KSM trial gets ready to roll, many prominent conservative Republicans are throwing absolute shit fits. The very notion of a terrorist suspect being tried in civilian court is, it seems, so outrageous that anyone watching or reading the news has had the pleasure of witnessing the cavalcade of hysteria from the usual suspect.

Take, for example, Little Miss Cheney and her objections to terrorists having a platform from which to “spew venom”. She’s hardly the only one, either. There’s a writer over at the weekly standard attempting to plea to the Democrats’ more political ideals as a reason not to give KSM a normal civilian trial.

Worse still, it’s spread to our “mainstream media” where you can witness the oh so liberal Wolf Blitzer parroting every right-wing talking point imaginable. From Cheney’s “it gives them a platform” to the even more screwed up “it’ll make New York a target again,” Blitzer dutifully masquerades talking points as questions, making sure to blow off Ron Suskind’s attempts to bring Wolfy down in the land of reason.

Remember, in the era of cable news, the pundit is the expert and the guest is the student. But that’s another rant for another day.

No, my point with listing these statements isn’t to simply point a finger and go “haw haw what a maroon,” but to illustrate a larger point. Cheney, the Standard, Wolf, and an Illinois rep who said moving detainees to his area would make it “ground zero”, they all represent a grander problem, which is that the right simply worships terrorists.

I don’t mean this in the same sense that they (claim to) worship Jesus Christ or the way that us moonbat liberals pray to the Michael Moore. Rather, they worship terrorists in the same way that primitive people worshiped volcanoes. They fear them, view them with awe, treating them as demigods that must be contained lest they bring their wrath down upon the mere mortals.

To hear them talk, you’d think Al Qaeda was staffed by amateur wizards who can cast a spell on everyone within a 10 mile radius, converting everyone who steps into a room with them. Simply having them in a civilian prison could potentially turn every single man and women in there, guards and prisoners alike, into jihadis. Let them sit on trial and their magical terrorist magic will get them off scot-free. The only way to keep us safe is to encase them in lead crates on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

If KSM lands on trial, he’s not going to sneak a dirty bomb in his shirt. The drive there won’t be the car chase scene from The Dark Knight. Security will be stepped up and no one will be in any danger. No more so than the average mob boss trial, anyway.

Terrorists aren’t some mystical entity. They’re human beings. Crazy human beings, but they’re mortal just like the rest of us. They obviously aren’t the brightest bulbs either, so expecting them to be able to spread suicide-bomber terrorism like swine flu once in captivity is a little on the unlikely side. In prison they’re no different than any other maniacs. For that matter, they’re no different from any other maniacs out of prison.

Treating terror suspects as though they’re supernatural creatures that can snap their fingers and have the world on its knees only empowers them. TERROR-ists, making TERROR.  It cripples our ability to deal with them effectively and puts us in greater danger in the end. It fuels anti-American sentiment, prevents us from getting legitimate intelligence, and severely hampers our ability to call ourselves the good guys.

So I am begging anyone who might agree with the above squawkboxes. Please, stop worshipping the terrorists.

You are spot on, OBL won when he was able to get the sole superpower at the time to collectively shit itself. Absent OUR fear he gained nothing, WITH our fear used as a tool he has whittled away at our liberty, our unity, and our collective courage as a nation.
Quite frankly, I'm tired of hearing and witnessing some of my own fellow citizens cowering from these guys. I can remember one of my closest friends telling me approximately five years ago that he "didnt' care if a few eggs were broken" in rounding up citizens and ignoring Habius Corpus just as long as he didn't have to worry about bombings in the local mall that his daughters frequented.
I love my children with all of my being, but refuse to raise them in a constant state of fear. I also live between where they are proposing to relocate the Gitmo prisoners and Chicago and have no qualm with them facing US justice within the same air I breath.

If there is evidence to convict, then sentence them and carry out the state sanctioned punishment, whatever that may be and establish justice in our land. We are not fighting a military organization, they are international terrorists. Convict them and kill them if that is what their sentence calls for.
Botttom line – lets get back to being the nation that leads the world, faces an uncertain future with faith in ourselves and our nations abilities, and quit the f'n groveling at some boogyman's feet.
Sidenote – My Rep (Manzullo R-IL 16) is a coward. I'll be writing him another e-mail that he'll ignore again about his comments on this subject.
