Naturally, Israel is calling the finding “flawed”, but then when my mom caught me sneaking home drunk when I was a teenager I also explained that her conclusions were faulty.
In the 112-page report, Amnesty says that on average Palestinian daily water consumption reaches 70 litres a day, compared with 300 litres for the Israelis.
It says that some Palestinians barely get 20 litres a day – the minimum recommended even in humanitarian emergencies.
Amnesty says that Israel denies West Bank Palestinians to dig wells, and has even destroyed cisterns and impounded water tankers.
At the same time, the report claims, Israeli settlers are enjoying swimming pools and green gardens.
In Gaza, Israel refuses access to many of the building materials needed to renovate the ailing water system, the document says.
It adds that Israel uses more than 80% of the water from the Mountain Aquifer – the main source of underground water in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.
It’s common amongst lefty bloggers to rail Israel for what they’re doing, and I don’t think I’ll buck the trend, here. It’s not a discussion of who’s “right” in the fight, it’s fairly well established that both sides are taking hardline stances on what a proper endgame would be, but a matter of who’s doing what.
The difference being that it isn’t “Israel vs Palestine”, so much as “the Israeli government vs Palestinian radicals.” We see time and time again a case of a lunatic shooting a dud rocket at some houses in Israel, and so the Israeli air force firebombs a neighborhood. Some suicide bombers hit a marketplace, the Israeli army storms a city block. A kid throws a rock at some Israeli police, they shut down the water for the whole half of Gaza.
The term “blowback” comes to mind. Sure, we “enlightened” Americans with our Googles and Farks “know” the whole situation because we read articles from all over the world, but to the family in Palestine too poor for a television, who only knows that the Israelis keep shutting off the water they need to survive, then in comes some guy from Hamas saying “come with me, brother, we take down the Israeli dogs,” what would you do?

You're actually suggesting Amnesty International has never criticized the US's various violations worldwide?
No offense, greenfeld, but you seem to be a bit biased to think that Israel is the grand victim at the hands of the entire world.
