I ask for precious little from the media. Mostly I ask for two things: accuracy and responsibility. If you want to slant your coverage, that’s fine, but make sure everything you say is actually true. Then, if you’re caught in a bout of idiocy and/or insensitivity, just friggin’ apologize. The FOX host that spent about six minutes tearing apart the Canadian military has apologized, but not really.
“The March 17th episode of Red Eye included a segment discussing Canada’s plan for a ‘synchronized break,’ which was in no way an attempt to make light of troop efforts,” host Greg Gutfeld said in a statement issued Monday.
“However, I realize that my words may have been misunderstood. It was not my intent to disrespect the brave men, women and families of the Canadian military, and for that I apologize.”
Listen up, asshole. You weren’t misunderstood. It’s not like you said these things outside in a field and everyone forgot their cameras and writing utensils at home. You’re on television openly mocking the Canadian military for being wimps and had a guy on who said they were so useless he didn’t even realize they were in Afghanistan to begin with.
When you spend a few minutes saying that the Canadian military wants to “do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white capri pants,” makes a “joke” that it’s time to invade, and oh here’s a great quote from a guest:
“We have police officers and they have Mounties. Our cops ride heavily armored cars. They ride horses. We have bullet-proof vests. They have wonderful little red jackets THAT CAN BE SEEN A MILE AWAY (his emphasis). This is not a smart culture, Greg.”
What did we misunderstand? The only way this was part of a misunderstanding was if we didn’t hear him mutter “I would be crazy to say…” before everything.
