Rove says McCain’s ads go too far, plus a quiz

This is the kind of thing I wouldn’t believe if I didn’t see it in print at Politico.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Rove said McCain had “gone one step too far, and sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the 100 percent truth test.”

McCain has come in for scathing criticism from many in the media and independent fact-check organizations for his recent hard-edged campaign tactics. But few Republicans, and none as prominent as Rove, have criticized McCain.

Keep in mind this is a guy who had a whisper campaign started that accused McCain of having an illegitimate black child. Also he was working the controls when the Swifties started talking out of their asses about Kerry’s war record. This is a dude who has a record of launching terrifyingly false attacks on Vietnam veterans, and he’s saying McCain’s gone too far. That’s basically like Joseph Goebbel’s reviewing a video and saying “that’s too propagandizing, there.”

Note: not calling Rove a Nazi or connecting him to the Third Reich in any way. So calm down.

Bonus!

“But they then say he doesn’t … send e-mail. Well, this is because his war injuries keep him from being able to use a keyboard. He can’t type. You know, it’s like saying he can’t do jumping jacks.”

Listen, if he can use a telephone, he can use a keyboard. If he can bathe himself, he can operate a computer. Stephen Hawking can barely use one of his hands and he can operate a computer to write speeches and scroll through a set of pre-typed responses in order to carry on basic conversations. If your fingers work, you can use a computer. It’s not a forklift or a set of drums, you don’t need much mobility to work the thing. Citing disability is like saying because I’m colorblind I should be excused for ignoring stoplights.

Apple has a list of things useful in case of disability. But let’s play a game. One of these three people is apparently too disabled to use a computer. If you can guess, you win a prize to be determined later.

A:

B:

C:

ANSWER KEY

A: Darren, from London. “I am paralysed from the neck down and ventilated; I use a headset and on-screen keyboard to access my computer. Due to my severe disability the computer and especially the internet is my primary communication link. I use the BBC website to access nearly all of my news and sport information. Being unable to hold and flick through a newspaper, the excellent quality and coverage of news and sport on the BBC website enables me to browse and find articles about most issues I’m interested in. The media player (radio & video) gives me independence to swap between programmes without constantly asking other people to do it for me. The BBC website gives me access to the news and sport I want, when I want it, the site is easy to navigate and increases my independence as a disabled person.”

B: Steven, from Utah. “Steven Singley, 41, a quadriplegic, answers calls for Office Depot from his home in Utah. He works 20 to 24 hours a week and says he can accurately type more than 20 words a minute despite his disability.”

C: Presidential candidate John McCain, waving and walking around.

How did you do? If you didn’t do well, don’t feel too bad. I failed my first shot as well.

It’s interesting how the dems continually slam Carl Rove, until his statements reinforce their vitriol for the republicans. I don’t care what the media says, if you connect the dots, it’s obvious that Obama’s lipstick/pig comment, which came just days after Palin scored points with her pitbulll/lipstick statement, was an ugly sexist response from Obama. Now, Obama is crying that he was misinterpreted, while the media, once again assists him in playing the victim. The deck has been so stacked in favor of Obama, whether it’s the media’s refusal to vet Obama in the first place, to giving Obama free rides with Wright, Farrakhan, Rezko, Ayers, etc.. The media, as well as shows like The View, are continuing to show extreme bias against Senator John McCain, while kissing Obama’s ass.

  • 1) Obama used the line in reference to McCain. He was talking about McCain, who in fact used the line against Hillary multiple times.

    2) The point is that if Karl Rove is saying it, that’s crazy. It’s not like I’m going to start praising the guy, the point is it’s like watching Jerry Falwell say “okay guys, no need to shove your religion in their faces.

    3) You’re so far off on the media being “stacked” for Obama it’s sad. Explain, then, the fury over the flag pin, Rev Wright, the fist bump, the madrassa, and where he was born?

Ultimately, if Obama was referring to Palin at all during the “Pig” thing, then Palin would be the lipstick. Because it is McCain’s policies that are the pig, and Palin is the pretty face to make it look nice.

Rove actually said both sides were going one step further than they should. I can’t believe your attempt to rationalize the fact that McCain’s war injuries prevent him from personally, physically using a PC; his wife helps. Senator McCain doesn’t have to use expensive technology that those who are severely disabled would have to use. Fact is, that neither Hillary Cl.inton nor Bill Clinton used computers. I am glad I am canceling out your vote.

This is just another example of going too far. So Kettle don’t call the pot black.

…and another one completely misses the point.
