Bush approval rating: ANOTHER low

It seems like hating on Bush is just how things are. You’ve got all the GOP candidates voicing their displeasure with the guy, all the Faux News pundits are raking him over the coals, so is it any wonder that he’s hit yet another all-time low in the polls?

Bush’s approval rating slid 6 points from 35 percent in April, NBC said, citing a decline in support within his own Republican Party. Sixty-six percent said they disapproved of Bush’s job performance.

The latest poll also found Americans growing more discontented with the Democratic-led Congress, with 64 percent disapproving of Congress’ job performance. Only 23 percent approved, down 8 points since April.

Sixty-eight percent believe the United States is on the wrong track. Only 19 percent believe the country is headed in the right direction — the lowest number in nearly 15 years, NBC said.

Ouch. 19% believe the country is headed in the right direction. And 15 years ago? Why, that was in 1992, the end of Bush Sr’s presidency.

Extremists of major faiths share views

Another unsurprising study. I’m not sure anyone needs to be told that no matter what religion you follow, your general worldview is going to be the same as long as it involves a god that needs worship and punishes the unworthy. But in case that surprises you, at least there’s an official study now.

“It is, in each situation, a case of ‘us’ versus ‘them,’” it said. “That God did not intend for civilization to take its current shape; and that the state had failed the righteous and genuine members of that nation, and therefore God’s law supersedes man’s law.”

This worldview was common to ultranationalist Jews, like Yigal Amir, who killed Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995, to U.S. groups like Christian Identity, which is linked to white supremacist groups, and to other Christian groups that attacked abortion providers, it said.

Obviously, we’re more in danger of Muslim extremists attacking us than Jewish or Christian ones, but the fact remains that the religions themselves lead to similar worldviews. Unbelievable, that.
