Gingrich had an affair during the Clinton probe

by Hanlon on March 9, 2007 at 1:45 pm

Boy here’s a brain-exploder. Now, we all knew by this time that Newt Gingrich as not the most monogamous man, what with his multiple marriages and all. And that did seem strange given that he was leading the charges against the adulterous Bill Clinton. So how can we make that even dumber? Have Gingrich admit an affair during said crusade.

Gingrich also acknowledged cheating on Ginther while leading the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton for allegations of perjury involving the Paula Jones sexual harassment civil case and the president’s affair with Monica Lewinsky.

The couple “went through a very difficult time,” Gingrich said. “We had a big difference about public life.”

Gingrich argued that the Clinton case was different from his personal transgressions.

“The president of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge,” he said, arguing that Clinton had “deliberately committed perjury.”

Right, right. He committed perjury. Concerning his extramarital affair. He didn’t lie about where he learned of a CIA operative’s identity or how he got a suitcase full of classified documents, he lied about his sexual transgressions. Is that different? If it is, that’s splitting hairs in the same way Willy himself did during the trial itself.

Gotta love those conservatives. Real champions of moral values, they are.
