Rocket hits US Embassy in Greece

The reaction to this is going to be worth monitoring. Early this morning a “revolutionary” group in Athens launched a rocket into the United States embassy. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

The blast, at 5:58 a.m. local time, was followed by an anonymous telephone call from someone who said the Revolutionary Struggle group was responsible, Public Order Minister Vyron Polydoras said. Some damage was caused by the explosion.

Revolutionary Struggle said it was behind a triple bomb attack in Athens in May 2004, 100 days before the city hosted the Olympic Games. Last year, the group failed in a bombing attempt that targeted a government minister and said it planned more assaults on political and business leaders. No member of the group has been arrested.

Now where I come from, there is a single word for this: terrorism. This is a politically motivated group using severe violence in order to achieve a desired end. There is nothing, nothing that separates them from Al Qaeda aside from religion. And yet, we don’t hear a whole lot about them.

If this were the US Embassy in, oh I don’t know… Jordan, then suddenly we’d have a new front for the Faux-War on Terror. The president would be on TV within hours to make a big speech where he pretends to be a brave and courageous leader and let us know that no matter how many terrorists attack us our will is not doing to break and we will not lose our resolve.

But it’s Greece, so it’s white guys. And really, white guys can’t be terrorists. That’s just silly.
