The McKinney Impeachment charge
So you may or may not have heard that Cynthia McKinney, as her last act while still a member of Congress, has decided to push for the impeachment of George W Bush.
On Monday, gathering in a conference room in Washington D.C., Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and her advisors worked on a draft copy of the articles of impeachment against President Bush.
At the heart of the charges contained in McKinney’s articles of impeachment, is the allegation that President Bush has not upheld the oath of presidential office and is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors.
Now let’s think about the logistics of this. People say he was never under oath when he said whatever, but the thing is perjury isn’t like the minimum qualification for an impeachment charge. Has he broken laws? Undoubtedly. Has he lied to Congress? You bet, and that alone has violated the intention of our Constitution and done a great disservice to the people. To say Bush is impeachable is a bit of an understatement. Like saying Jeffrey Dahmer could possibly be charged with murder.
But will it be passed? Nah. And here’s why:
Speaker-elect, Representative Pelosi, dismissed any possibility of impeachment, saying it is “off the table” and that it is “a waste of time … making them lameducks is good enough for me.” Although, in the November election, 60% of the voters in her own district cast ballots in favor of Proposition J, a measure calling for the impeachment of President Bush.
It’s a waste of time. This is the Washington attitude. It doesn’t matter what you did last week, there’s no such thing as repercussions for wrongdoing. As long as we can stop you from doing it again, it’s all water under the bridge. That’s just plain depressing.
That’s what pisses me off about the Democratic Party. They don’t move as a unit the way the right does. They move as individuals and occasionally ask that the others move with them. The GOP top takes a stance, it echoes from the top all the way through Congress and the media. They are the red tide, a million little particles all moving as one.
The right managed to get people thinking Clinton was raping and murdering people daily, and he was impeached over lying about oral sex. If Clinton had the massive and widespread corruption we’re seeing in Bush, he would have been outta there damn near immediately.
Bush is going to get away with murder, and lots of it. All because the Democrats aren’t willing to admit that in America you should be held responsible for what you do.

Bush at 30% in Zogby
I need an “oh snap son” image, I think. But yep, it’s true. Ol’ George W Bush has dropped to 30% approval in the latest Zogby, which is apparently a new low.
Support for the President waned in key demographic groups, the Zogby poll shows. Among all Republicans, just 60% gave him a positive job rating, while 39% gave him negative marks. Just 9% of Democrats and 22% of political independents gave him good marks for his work. Among married respondents – typically a group who favors Republicans – just 35% said Bush was doing a positive job. Among men, another favorable GOP demographic, just 31% gave him positive marks, while 69% gave him a negative rating. Even among stalwart Born Again respondents, just 43% had positive ratings for the President on his overall job performance.
Ouch. It gets worse…
The poll showed that Bush’s troubles clearly stem from trouble with the war in Iraq. Just 24% give him positive marks for his handling of the war, down from 39% who gave him a positive rating six months ago for his handling the way. Even among Republicans, a minority – 47% – think he has handled the war well (52% of Republicans gave him negative marks for his leadership on the war in Iraq). Not a single demographic group in the Zogby poll gave the president a majority positive rating for his handling of the war.
Egad. This president just may turn out to be the least liked president of all time, topping Nixon and Carter. It’s really telling that Bush had the highest approval of any president, yet has managed to screw that up enough to drop him down into amongst the lowest. How bad of a president do you have to be to get a boost like 9/11 in your approval, and then drop two thirds of that?
